Cabernet Couple
This duo is a great representation of our cabernet grapes!
Cab Franc 2021
Virginia Governor's Cup 2023 - Gold Medal Winner
Cabernet Franc is considered a signature grape of our wine-growing region, and we celebrate it as such. This 2021 vintage is one of our best and the 2023 Governor’s Cup Gold Medal, awarded by the judges, shows they agree. You’ll find notes of red plum, cranberry, and thyme with hints of red currant, black tea, and black pepper on the palate, and a finish that has a tart acidity. We recommend enjoying glasses by the fire or backyard grill or with family around the table.
Nose: red plum, cranberry, thyme, black pepper
Palate: red currant, espresso, black tea, red beet
Finish: tart acidity, medium plus tannins, grippy finish
Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
As the offspring of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc, the varietal Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most commonly found wines in the world, and in our cooler Virginia climate, these grapes excel, though in a way that’s distinct from a California Cabernet Sauvignon. We take a classical approach by harvesting from southern-facing slopes, giving the grapes extended sun exposure. This highlights the sweet tobacco and red plum aromatics while preserving the tannins and acidity this varietal is known for. The extended maceration of the skins and long barrel aging help to enhance this vintage’s flavors of cranberry, sour cherry, and leather. Easily one of our best pairing wines.
Nose: sweet tobacco, red plum, black pepper, wet straw, limestone
Palate: cranberry, sour cherry, polished leather
Finish: medium body, acid, and tannin
Blends:
Cabernet Franc 2021 - 99.5% Cabernet Franc, .5% Chambourcin
Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 - 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Tannat
