We’re excited to announce both our Chardonnay Reserve 2021 and Petit Verdot 2019 have won gold medals in the 2024 Virginia Governor’s Cup!  World-class judges sampled over 750 of the best wines from Virginia and 79 wineries received 138 Golds!  This year's wines show the distinctiveness and dimension of what is being produced here in Virginia.  Gold medals were awarded across seven regions, through seven vintage years and included twenty-six grape varietals.  We’ve curated this Gold Medal Duo so you can sample a little of what the judges had the pleasure to taste!

Chardonnay Reserve 2021

Virginia Governor’s Cup 2024 - Gold Medal Winner and Virginia Governor's Cup 2023 - Silver Medal Winner

Our Reserve Chardonnay is just that -- the best of the best, reserved just for you. Made from only the highest quality of the Chardonnay grapes we grow, and with inspiration from Burgundy winemaking techniques, this beauty is then aged 10 months in oak (33% of that in French oak, if you’re curious). All to say, our Reserve Chardonnay lives up to the label, with complex aromas, and a fruitiness balanced with hints of pear and light oak. Balance here is key, and this one hits it.

Nose:  almond, toffee, golden raisin, caramel, toasted brioche

Palate:  prickly pear, stewed pineapple, asparagus, slight oak

Finish: light oak, creamy body, light dryness







Petit Verdot 2019

Virginia Governor’s Cup 2024/2023/2022 - Gold Medal Winner

Our single varietal 2019 Petit Verdot is a beautiful example of why we love this grape so much. We age this wine in a blend of French and American oak barrels to enhance its complexity, bringing out its rich aromas of boysenberry, black olive, and tobacco leaf and highlighting fruit flavors on the palate of blackberry and pomegranate seed. Its finish is dry, with medium tannins and with notes of pepper. This lovely wine pairs well with rich meat dishes, spicy foods, and a variety of hard and semi-soft cheeses.

Nose:  boysenberry, violet, black olive, tobacco leaf

Palate:  blackberry, pomegranate seed, dark cocoa, wet chalk

Finish:  medium acid, medium tannins, fine tannin texture
